Swastika Stone Walk- Burley Walkers are Welcome

Simon Archer will lead our last long walk of the year, a nine mile linear route across Burley and Ilkley Moor to  the Swastika stone.  Meet at Burley Station at 10.00.

The walk will follow the lower edge of Burley Moor towards the Cow and Calf rocks, keeping high to reach the Swastika stone. Dropping down through Heber’s Ghyll the walk will finish in Ilkley. A venue for refreshments can be agreed by the group.  Return to Burley by bus or by train.

West Chevin- Burley Walkers are Welcome

This five mile walk will head to the lower slopes of the Chevin.  Meet at Burley Station at 10.00.

Leaving Burley via Eastfield Lane, we will cross the old railway line to reach Acrecliffe Farm.  We will walk up the Gill Brow to the highest point of the walk at West Chevin before dropping down to Menston. Following the Dales Way link route through Menston we will  reach Bleach Mill Lane for refreshments.  Return to Burley will be along Hag Farm Road.  There are a number of stiles and some moderate ascents and descents on field paths.

Stead Walk- Burley Walkers are Welcome

This is a 3-mile low level walk to Burley Woodhead and Stead. Meet at Burley Station at 10.00.

Walking up to Hag Farm, we will follow the Ebor Way to Moor Road, then walk along the roadside path to Robin Hole.  Following Stead Lane, we will cross fields to Colston Drive and Scalebor Park.  Refreshments will be back in the village  at Cockpit Farm cafe.  There are no stiles.  We will mostly be using tracks and lanes along with some field paths which may be muddy.

Burley Moor Run

The Burley Moor Run is an annual event held in November as part of the Burley in Wharfedale Summer Festival.  Runners of all abilities can expect a warm welcome and a personal challenge on the off road course with a strong possibility of mud!

The run has established itself in the calendar of running events. The course is 11k on footpaths some of which are steep and uneven, but they are well marked. There will be stewards to guide and assist where required. The course goes from Scalebor Park up to the high point of Burley Moor near the Great Skirtful of Stones and then returns to Scalebor. 

The 2023 run is for scheduled for Saturday 11 November, with the run start at 10:00.

Burley Walkers are Welcome- Horncliffe Well

A nine-mile route to Horncliffe Well and Faweather Grange.  Meet at Burley Station at 10.00.

Heading first over Burley Moor to reach the Shooting Hut, the route will descend to Horncliffe Well, before crossing over Bingley Road to reach Faweather Grange and Little London. The return to Burley will follow Old Wood Lane to Intake Gate and Reva Hill before dropping down to Burley Woodhead.

Burley Walkers are Welcome- Burley Woodhead & Burley Moor

A five-mile walk onto Burley Moor.  Meet at Burley Station at 10.00.

The walk will be along Hag Farm Road to reach the footpath towards the Hermit and Burley Woodhead. Walking along the edge of the moor, the walk will drop down to Stead before returning to Burley for refreshments at Cockpit Farm Tea Room.  There will be modest ascents and descents and some stiles.

The Odda- Burley Walkers are Welcome

Simon Archer will be leading the longer walk this month.  The ten-mile route will skirt Menston by way of Acrecliffe Farm to reach the Odda.  There will be a refreshment break at Curlew Café before returning to Burley via Reva Reservoir and Intake Gate.  Meet at Burley Station at 10.00. There are some stiles and moderate ascents.  Bring a picnic lunch.

Lanshaw on Burley Moor- Burley Walkers are Welcome

The five-mile walk this month will be a high-level visit to some of the features in the Lanshaw valley on the middle slopes of Burley Moor.   Meet at Burley Station at 10am.

Leaving the village via Scalebor Park to Stead Lane, we will walk past Dog Kennel Farm to reach Burley Moor. Walking up to Woofa Bank on the moor, we will continue climbing to reach the Lanshaw Valley and the Lanshaw Delves before leaving the moor via Lower Lanshaw reservoir. There will be a stop at the Hermit for refreshments, before returning to the village along Hag Farm Road.  There are some short but steep sections of climbing to get onto the moor which we will take steadily.  There are no stiles.
