FREE Adult Cycling Lesson
The Ilkley Active Travel Hub works with Capital of Cycling to provide free adult cycling lessons in Ilkley.
- Beginner’s Cycling Lessons (level 1): for anyone that wants to learn or hasn’t got on a bike since they first learned
This lesson is taught by a trained cycling instructor who will work with you to pace the sessions to meet your needs. The lessons are taught in small groups with a maximum of 4 people attending.
Bikes and helmets are provided for free and the lessons take place at the Ilkley Rugby Club ground.

Ilkley Car-Free Festival
Come to Ilkley Car Free Festival on Sunday 22nd September. It’s a fun, community event with something for everyone, run by Climate Action Ilkley. The festival is in line with the international World Car Free Day event. The Ilkley Active Travel Hub will be running a variety of active travel stalls and activities at the event.
Couch to 5k Ilkley Group
Have you always fancied starting Couch to 5K? Or are already doing it, but would like some company?
We run the Ilkley Couch to 5k running group. The group is open to everyone and anyone and doesn’t matter whereabouts you are in the process. Top tips and support are offered too by our lovely group leader.
Our next Couch to 5k meet-ups are taking place on Friday 27th September at 9:30am. Meet at the Riverside Gardens (near the memorial). No need to book- just show up.

The Welcome Way- Burley Walkers are Welcome
David Steel will lead a 5-mile walk to Askwith to follow a stretch of the Welcome Way route. Crossing the stepping stones, you will walk up to Askwith via Quaker Cottage then follow Hallam Lane to pick up the Welcome Way. Walking past Grassgarth Farm to Town Head, you will follow the Way until reaching Hall Lane before returning to Askwith. Refreshments will be at Cockpit Farm.
If the stepping stones are unsafe to cross, an alternative walk will follow field paths to Menston and Carlrayne Lane then climb Gill Brow to reach West Chevin. before the return through Menston to Burley.
