Feizor- Burley Walkers are Welcome

The long walk this month, led by Ian Park, is the 8-mile walk postponed from June. It will visit the dramatic limestone scenery around Feizor. Transport by Ilkley Community Transport minibus.  To allow for the extra journey time, we will be meeting earlier than usual. Arrive at Burley Station car park in time to leave promptly at 9.00.  Remember to bring £8 in cash for the minibus. Numbers are limited so please book beforehand via [email protected].  No dogs allowed.

Leaving Stainforth above Settle, we will visit Stainforth Force then  follow the riverside path to Stackhouse.  Beyond and behind the village, we climb steeply at first into limestone country following the route of Wainright’s Pennine Journey, to the tiny hamlet of Feizor. The aim is  to stop here at Elaine’s café if not too busy.  Leaving on the Dales High Way, we climb Smearsett Scar with fantastic views on a clear day – before descending back to Stainforth.  We may also call into the campsite bar at Knight Stainforth near the end of the walk. Remember to bring a picnic lunch and sufficient water. You will need to be equipped for a high level walk with possible bad weather.  There are several stiles en route and a couple of steep ascents and descents.

Askwith- Burley Walkers are Welcome

David Asher will lead this 3 mile walk through Askwith.  Meet at Burley Station at 10.00.

Heading down Leatherbank, we will cross over the stepping stones so long as they are safe to cross. We will then climb gently up through fields to Quaker Cottage before going along Askwith Main Street towards the Penny Bun pub.  Return to Burley  will be  a gentle descent down the bridleway, crossing over the stones and walking next to the Goit towards Greenholme Mill. Refreshments will be available at Cockpit Farm Tea Rooms. There is one stile.  If the stepping stones are unsafe to cross, we will  have an alternative walk - along the railway line to Otley Golf Course, and then back to Burley along Eastfield Lane.
