IPPR have published a fascinating and informative report regarding Active Travel. It highlights how the government’s plans have so far failed and how investment in active travel has been low. It then goes on to highlight all the benefits of active travel including the cost of living, economic benefits, health benefits, environmental benefits and safety benefits.The report ends with IPPR’s recommended investment plan.
There are plenty of shocking statistics throughout the report, for example the UK has one of the lowest rates of walking, cycling and wheeling in the the whole of Europe and also, more than 80 people are killed or seriously injured on the roads everyday in the UK, 21% of these people are pedestrians.
