National Walking Month

Living Streets are running National Walking Month for the whole of May. There are so many benefits of walking more as we’ve mentioned before. This is what Living Streets say about it:

“Walking is one of the easiest ways to improve physical and mental health. It enables us to feel connected to our community. Swapping a short drive for a walk can reduce air pollution, congestion and road danger. And it can help us save money.

All of this is why we celebrate #NationalWalkingMonth every May. And we want you to take part.

This year, we’re inviting you to discover the #MagicOfWalking and celebrate the many health and happiness benefits of walking and wheeling.

A 20-minute walk can reduce the risk of a number of preventable health conditions, including certain cancers, depression, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

We’ve put together a #Try20 checklist to help you fit 20 minutes of walking or wheeling into your day. From inviting friends and family for a walk to taking a post-work stroll, how much of our #Try20 checklist can you tick off during National Walking Month?

Our #Try20 checklist is just the start of what we have lined up.

May also sees the return of Walk to School Week (20-24 May) when we celebrate the health and social benefits associated with walking to school.

We will also use the month to make calls for safer streets and neighbourhoods, as well as releasing new polling data showing attitudes to walking and launching a prize draw.

We hope you enjoy the #MagicOfWalking this May.”

So why not check out their website, try walking at least 20 minutes a day or get your child’s school to participate in Walk to School week.
